You’ll hear the phrase a lot from domainers remarking on the abilty of others (especially marketers, duh!) to understand the value of various categories of domain names like Generic, Geo and Call-to-Action. I’d like to add one to the “Get’s It” pile…

Great post over at DotWeekly.com today with tips on finding and recognizing “good” domain names — which categories are HOT and which are NOT. Plenty of travel-related domains dropping today: Good<state-name>.com and TravelAgency<city-name>.com names… Someone has already taken GoodTexas.com and GoodFlorida.com. GoodPennsylvania.com is still available… MY home state!
I just saw a commercial for NetFlix and the domain name they used was TryNetFlix.com. So I did a quick scan of the “Try” names that dropped over the past few months and came up with just a few good ones:
TryFashion.com, TryClimbing.com and TryWholesale.com

When cities get chosen, er… picked for things like the Olympics, All-American City Award, Greenest city, City of Culture, etc… (you get the idea), there is usually a movement or campaign to advocate the city before the award is given. Today a lot of good names dropped… not because most days DON’T have good names, but yesterday I spent a good amount of time looking at the drop list and going outside my normal keywords — just browing the list in no particular order. And when your looking for good names, well, I didn’t want to disappoint myself, so I found some!
*OOOPS* I thought “NewMayor.com” had dropped, but it was actually “NewMajor.com“. Thanks for the commenter! Well, maybe it could be used for students switching majors in colleges and universities… :p
