Almost Your New Mayor 2

Posted on August 28, 2008 by Watcher

*OOOPS* I thought “NewMayor.com” had dropped, but it was actually “NewMajor.com“. Thanks for the commenter! Well, maybe it could be used for students switching majors in colleges and universities… :p

Anyway, here’s the old post:

NewMayor.com dropped today and was available for a little while, but has since been picked up. I’ve never tried it before, but wouldn’t this be a great name for someone running for major. How may majors are currently running or planning to run election campaigns right now? Probably a lot!

NewMayor.com, an endlessly recycleable name for any politicio! Sure, they can use the “VoteFor…”, “Elect…”, “…ForMajor” names, but only one person can claim to be the “New Mayor“.

Today’s grab was BedroomHelp.com. Now, this can go a couple ways: either you need help renovating your sleeping quarters or you’ve got performance issues… :)

Register Your (future) President 0

Posted on August 27, 2008 by Watcher

Sahar’s post today about the domain PresidentClinton.com prompted me to look back at the recent drops for any other interesting “president” names. There was only one US president name that deleted August 4th and is now registered, PresidentJohnson.com… a VERY nice one (and parked). Read the rest of this entry →

Today’s Reward 2

Posted on August 26, 2008 by Watcher

Everybody is offering reward and loyalty programs nowadays… Who buys a new credit card without some kind of reward or cash-back program coming along with it? I wouldn’t!

Some great Google search volume and advertiser competition for things reward-related: “cash back“, “frequent flyer“, “credit card comparison“, “travel credit cards” and “air miles“. Ahhhh, I can almost see the PPC money bags being dumped on my doorstep… /end dream squence/

Well, anyway. Picked up a great domain name today from a Taster: NewRewards.com. I love those short and sweet names that really mean somthing, or could mean something to the right someone…

NewsHabit.com is another name I really like and it’s currently available… :)

Happy Hunting!

And The Name Is… 3

Posted on August 26, 2008 by Watcher

Waiting for domain tasters to drop their domains is never easy — well it is if you have a little help ;) — never knowing for sure if they’ll drop it, multiple registrations, other tasters waiting in the wings, etc… Just remember, if no one backordered the name, it’s not worth the worry, especially if you don’t have any immediate plans for the domain. There are always 50,000 other domains dropping tomorrow…

I managed to register LivestockJobs.com. Wow! Ok, ok. Well, what did  you expect? Really not a bad name if you think about it: the uber generic and prized “jobs” plus the single-word “livestock“. Together, they make a great niche combination, no?

When people are searching for employment, what do they type in the Google search box? Read the rest of this entry →

“Cheap” Domain Names 0

Posted on August 24, 2008 by Watcher

No, not cheap as in “inexpensive”, but cheap as in CheapBooks.com. I just saw a T.V. commercial for CheapBooks.com and it put a smile on my face… Most big retailers don’t own the generic domain names for their products or their longer-tail variants with “Cheap”, “Buy”, “Great”, “New”, etc…

The commercial was a bit low-budget, but it shows you what a great domain name + comparison engine and affiliate links can do for you. Could YOU buy airtime on Comedy Central with any of your domains? I couldn’t, but CheapBooks.com gives me inspiration! Especially since I own CheapBestsellers.com and CourseBooks.us.

I’ll check out that site some more and give you a detailed look on how it’s monetized… Check Back!

Do “Good” Domains Matter? 0

Posted on August 23, 2008 by Watcher

A lot of domainers will tell you that a good domain isn’t necessary to make it to the big time, but it definitely doesn’t hurt. I believe I give out some pretty good names here on GoDrops.com, but I’m definitely on the domainer-side which says that if you DO focus on quality names, you’ll be rewarded…

Anyway, it’s interesting to look at the other side. Check out the domains in the ICanHasCheezburger network… real doozies! Proves that niche-ideas can really take off and so-called “bad” domain names might actually help. You won’t often find these types of name here, but there are more of them “out there” than the statistically “good” domain names.

Happy Hunting!

Call-to-Action Domains at Work 0

Posted on August 23, 2008 by Watcher

Yesterday, you may have noticed a lot of available names ending with “now.com”. Here’s a sample of some names currently available:

OneLifeNow.com
LockRatesNow.com
GoCampingNow.com

And here are some names that are currently being Tasted:

PaintBallNow.com
FindGodNow.com
SaveRightNow.com

These are examples of Call-to-Action names. I was inspired to write this post because I just saw a T.V. commercial for InventNow.org — check it out! One-word verbs make Strong Call-to-Action domains like this one. Also, notice the marketing preference for the .org over the .com. It seems they own both versions…

The Feed of Regret! 0

Posted on August 22, 2008 by Watcher

Here at GoDrops.com, we’ve just released feeds that chronicle domain names that drop and names that are bought — all handpicked by our trained staff, er, me.

DoodleInc.com was just picked up at GoDaddy.com — a cute and catchy little name. This is just one of many names that I had thought were good enough to watch, but not good enough to buy. At the time, the name just didn’t have that End-User feel to it, or whatever you want to call it.

Well, it’s found a new home now and I’ll be watching if it WAS an end-user purchase. GoDaddy frowns on Tasters and cancels accounts that refund large numbers of names (according to a rep I recently talked to), that’s why I believe this is an end-user sale…
