Today went off without a hitch after migrating the GoDrops data over to the new database (thanks to GoDaddy for providing a backup!). I did some tweeking in the backend to cache database lookups — now there’s a strict delay for each DB query is inforced no matter how many users are chatting away and watching the domain drops. So all is well until migration to the new dedicated server!
I’ve never setup a dedicated server before, so this is all very new to me — not the technology, but the ability to set it all up yourself! I’m going to have nameservers, man! Now the biggest question is: “What domain to I use for my new nameservers?” Then I thought, holy cow, if I have my own nameservers, I can tell others to point their domains to me and I can actually provide services! Anyway, this has got me really thinking outside the shared-hosting box…
