Big One Tomorrow

As you can tell, I mainly target two-word dot COM names for the Daily Drop. Tomorrow there are 7,243 of them dropping, but usually there are only 5-6 thousand. I’ve already spotted a lot of gems so make sure you’re here for the Live Chat + Drop tomorrow between 11am-12:15pm PST!

SauceCups.com: Great Targeted Product or Inconvient Truth

Just to highlight what domains to NOT register… Names like SauceCups.com seem great because they’re generic, TM free, targeted, and a widely used product. It was registered today after it dropped, then I suppose the owner had second thoughts and deleted it again… Read the rest of this entry »

What's Left?

These days, there are a lot of names still available after they drop, so if you see something you like during the daily Live Chat + Drop here at GoDrops.com, there is no better time to get. If you wait too long Read the rest of this entry »

In The Tank?

If you subscribe to any of the GoDrops.com feeds you know the kinds of domains we watch: short .COM and .NET, numeric .COM, and catchy/meaningful two word .COM. Every category of domain has its ups and downs and some measure of liquidity. If you want high liquidity, go for the 3 character .COMs, 4 letter good pattern .COMs and .NETs, 3 letter gTLD, NNNN in .COM and .NET, and single words in a gTLD — no surprises there. What the Big Boys are Taking

To catch a good name, you’ve got to first develop an EYE for good names. Domain refunds still exist, and that’s OK, but sometimes it helps to see what the other experienced drop catchers are getting for registration fee. Here’s a list of what BuyDomains has grabbed over the past few days: Read the rest of this entry »

My First Three Character

Today I caught o8R.net, my first ever CCC.net. I was totally thrilled, but the Drop Dude brought me back down to Earth… apparently NCN and CNC patterns are the bottom of the barrel. But anyone can tell, this one is TOTALLY pronouncable: “Oh Waiter!“… Yes, this begins my Restaurant Review Empire!

In The Middle Of It

Now it’s about 1/2 time in the Daily Drop, so I thought I’d share a funny moment. It’s very important to NOT use copy & paste when adding domains to your shopping cart… Read the rest of this entry »

Paying The Price

Some people will pay $60 or more to (seriously) backorder a dropping name with Namejet, Pool or Snapnames. Backordering with GoDaddy sets you back only $18, but many consider their services inferior — I think for names of a certain quality it does just fine :) Here are today’s drops that were backordered with Snapnames. This will give you an idea of the types of names other people consider worth at least $60… Read the rest of this entry »

A Disturbance in the Force

Domain Taster Vibrant Networks is now parking names using three new nameservers: SEDO, domaincontrol.com and domainservice.com. domainservice.com is in the IP range of Oversee.net, domaincontrol.com is a GoDaddy registrar, and SEDO is, well, SEDO…

If I knew more about nameservers, I might be able to give you some more info, but I don’t… Maybe Vibrant is shopping for better performing PPC feeds or tracking…?

Do You Want a Premium LLLL.net or NNNNN.com?

… then you have to go to Snapnames :( They’ve been much more aggressive lately, catching nearly all of them during the drop. The good news is that NOT all of them get a bid during the public action (usually they’re listed at $9) and Snapnames will let them drop again on the fourth day — this is the second drop.
