OK, I admit, a Frager title if there ever was one. I’m not attempting parody, but actually putting myself in THAT state of mind. Strong call-to-action names work well with AND without the .COM at the end and the post’s title forces you to think in that way.

FindFellowship.com dropped yesterday and is still available. There a couple guys right now sitting across from me at a coffee shop… I’m going to pitch it. / goes and pitches the domain /

An L-L-L.com Drops Again

B-Z-Y.com was dropped on the 19th and was picked up by eNom immediately. eNom let it drop today and it was left out in the open under 2 hours and was grabbed by someone else… Nice One! These types are easy flips. Being an anti-premium, however, don’t expect to much out of this one. I’ve got a cousin, B-Z-Z.com, which I’m developing now (reminds me of “buzz”).

Shopping for the Holidays

Anyone shopping for holiday-related keyword domains? BuyDomains.com is… they just grabbed ChristmasCarcCentral.com and MoscowGifts.com. These types of names are great, if you have a site, affilates and datafeeds lined-up ready to go. New names WILL take a while to get indexed in Google and to start refering searchers to your site, but if you start now, you could be raking in the Holiday cash if you do it right!

Times Are Changing!

eNom has been tasting now for a few days. Maybe they’ll stop today and maybe the won’t. The Live Chat + Drop has been great fun over the past couple months, but was really optimized for names actually dropping and NOT being caught by tasters.

( Actually the database WAS designed to catch Taster drops in the first place, the Live Chat + Drop came later when Tasters stopped taking EVERYTHING )

So, some site updates are in order if THIS is going to be the norm. Over the next couple days, I’ll try to work on the User Experience here to make this a little easier.

Domain Marketplaces

A LOT of registrars already have or are setting up domain marketplaces, some more covertly than others, eNom and Tucows for example. Domain Marketplaces vary in features that may include:

sales of expired domains, renewed by the registrar
auctions of expiring domains, maybe renewed by the owner
auctions of names THEY have caught on the drop and will delete if no sale
private backorder auctions
user-listed names

The UGLY practice of domain-hoarding has reared its head again, this time with eNom and its new aftermarket site AquireThisName.com. The Domains has a new piece on this one…

Here are some of the biggest Domain Marketplaces:

Name.com (expiring)
AquireThisName.com (eNom; expired)
Afternic.com (house and user-listed)
GoDaddy.com (expiring, user-listed, backorder w/o auction)
Moniker.com (user-listed)
Namejet.com (expired, drops, backorder)
Snapnames.com (expired, user-listed, drops, backorder)

YummyNames.com (Tucows; expired)
Pool.com (user-listed, drops, backorder)

If a Registrar doesn’t itself have its own marketplace, it’s a good bet that it “sends” its Expired Names to a “Partner”:

NetworkSolutions, eNom, NameSecure.com, BulkRegister.com names go to Namejet.com
Melbourne IT goes to Afternic
Moniker, MyDomain, Register.com, Dotster, Answerable names go to Snapnames

And if expired names DON’T sell AND the previous owner DOESN’T renew, there is still NO guarentee that the name will drop. The Regisrar itself may renew and “hoard” it. Also, the regisrar at its discretion may charge an increased renewal fee of an expired domain if it’s deemed “premium” — by whatever criteria…

Yesterday, BinderSleeves.com was caught by Pool without a backorder. It’s on public Dutch auction, starting at $60. The price will drop until sold or until $10 over the next 4 days. Check out the Google results.

ClearHeaded.com was backordered and now is at private auction at Snapnames. BigTimeOffers.com was caught by DnWare. CarpetWizards.com now lays at Dynadot. Anything good left to grab? Sure!…

The ONLY day that I 50% complete my scan of the drop list is the SAME day a one-word dictionary dot com decides to DROP. I haven’t seen one of these drop for a long time… Meets.com dropped today and now it’s in a Private Auction at Snapnames.

You might be saying, “But GoDrop, your motto is ‘Backorder Services are for Wimps!‘”… I would also like to add that they’re for those with real MONEY, and that the REAL reason I don’t do it often… At least I wanted to see how HIGH it climbed in real time…
