See You At The GeoDomain Expo!

Wish me luck getting down there tomorrow! Don’t worry if I end up on the side of the road, the GoDrops scanners will still be plugging away for drop-time. Maybe I can get a projection screen and have a 10 foot tall Live Chat + Drop tomorrow =)

The Daily Drop will occur during the “Dailies: They’re gone, now what?” session. That’s where I’ll be. I will check in to see how the drop is going, though. On Saturday during Drop Time is “Travel industry Tips and Tricks“. I’ll be sitting firm in on that as well…

See You There!

Congrats to Today's Winners

I ran a little contest today and gave away a couple domain names. I love giving away stuff — look for more of this in the future. Always trying to mix it up here to make things more fun.

Congrats to the Winners!

Free Domain Giveaway!

To celebrate @GoDrops surpassing 600 followers on Twitter, I’ll be doling out some free domain names during the Live Chat + Drop starting 11am PST TODAY.

Don’t Miss It!

GeoRevolution is Live!

I’ve finally stood up GeoRevolution.com in time for the GeoDomain Expo in San Diego that starts tomorrow. If you’re attending then I encourage you to Sign Up to have your tweets aggregated at the site. Also, during the event, I’ll have a live chat working so people at home and participate in any goings-on.

So, to find out what’s happening at the GeoDomain Expo, check out http://georevolution.com! The festivities start tomorrow evening, but I’ll be getting there just in time for Friday’s breakfast.

Gearing Up for San Diego's GeoDomain Expo

I’ll be trotting down to San Diego later this week for the GeoDomain Expo. This will be my FIRST domain conference — first of many if all goes well. While I’m there, I’ll be twittering, blogging and chatting on my new social platform that I’ll be rolling out later today.

I really believe in GEO – not just because I’m a cartographer by training — but you’re not getting anything for free unless you’re holding premium city/country names. Long-tail GEO domains can work for local marketing campaigns as Shoe Money has demonstrated. The tools to GEO target internet users are abundant now: Google, Facebook, MySpace have advertising tools that get you very local.

Like any domain name, I like my GEOs to be short, clear, have over 100k residence, dot COM and to target popular services and products. Yes, that does rule out a lot of possibilities, but that’s good. E.g. I won’t be registering any names like SanBernardinoHomeInspectors.com (taken) any time soon.

Anywho, stay tuned as GoDrops.com gears up for San Diego! More to come!

Anyone Going to GeoDomains in San Diegeo?

I’m seriously thinking about going as it’s literally just down the road from me. Looks like the who’s who will be there and lots of good topics scheduled… Anywho, If anyone is going give a shout-out here… maybe GoDrops.com can have a Birds-of-a-Feather meeting down there over some ale… =D

Pinata Drops Candy, None Came to The Party

eNom didn’t chase names today for Tasting. The new ICANN rules went into effect today putting a stop, at least for now, to their massive sweeps during the Daily domain Drop. We’ll be watching if this will be the new normal in the days ahead..

But, it looks good! Nearly all the domain picks for today are still available to register…

Thanks all for taking the April Fool’s Joke… Those joining the Live Chat + Drop were treated to some GREAT domain drops. Too bad they weren’t real… =)

Feeds Go Live this Evening!

In anticipation of domain tasters possibly dumping their domains before the midnight deadline tonight due to registrars’ implementation of the new ICANN refund policy, GoDrops.com will turn on LIVE feeds on the Live Chat + Drop page: http://godrops.com/live. Not sure which time zone the 11:59pm occurs in, so I’ll assume US. Eastern Time.

We’ll let it run and see what happens…!

Free Domains! and The End of Domain Tasting (maybe)

In today’s daily domain drop we saw a large dumping of tasted domain names. Likely these were names that the tasters wouldn’t have received refunds for if deleted after today. Tomorrow, March 31st, is the deadline for registrars to implement the ICANN policy, passed last December, designed to curtail the practice of domain tasting. Today’s activity may have been just a pre-cursor…

To celebrate the End Of Domain Tasting (maybe), GoDrops.com will give away some free domain names during the Live Chat + Drop tomorrow between 11am and 12:15p PST.

Drop Catching: Hometown Edition

About a week ago, I caught a domain name, a 2-word dot COM, that was the exact name of a local pizza shop I happen to like. The owner was thrilled that I was going to just give them the domain name, shook my hand and said, “I owe you one.”

Fast-forward a couple days and what drops in my inbox? An email from one of the other managers saying there’s a $100 tab waiting for me down at the pizza shop. SWEET! Did I  also mention there’s Sam Adam’s on tap?

Just a reminder: keep it real with your domaining. Real people and businesses right next door and downtown are in the game too, not just the people you see on your favorite social networks. Build Good Karma at Home as well as Online.
