Caught By Surprise Today

There was really only ONE name I wanted to get today on the drop. It did drop, but early, and I just missed it (the drop is still going on and will continue for another hour or so).

A quick check of the updated whois info showed a known taster, Vibrant Networks, had caught it just after it had dropped. They were unusually quick with this one and caught me off guard. Good news is that they’ll likely refund the name within 4 days, so… whois scanners on full! I’m patient…

Oh, the name? I’ll let you know when I get it :) The picture is a clue…

Gone Green

In a previous post I gave everyone a heads-up on the dropping green<city-name>.com names today. Well, how did you do? I just took only one: GreenPrague.com. Vibrant Networks is tasting a few and someone took GreenAthens.com early… nice catch there, another great tourist destination to go green!

eDaycare.com at Bido.com

I’ve submitted several names that I’ve caught on the drop to Bido. Bido auctions a lot of the 2 word variety dot com names, which is right up my alley, so I’m hopeful…

Today, Bido will have an auction for eDaycare.com, which I think it a fantastic brandable, one of the best so far seen Bido. The auction starts in 1 hour (10am PST) and only lasts 1 hour, so head on over and get yourself a great name!

At Least They Tried #2

August 16th will see a cast of smart<first-name>.com domains dropping. Again, if you’re interested in domains of this pattern, use the contact page or make a comment here. Amazing to see so many similar names drop… what was the registrant thinking! I don’t know who it was, because the basic whois info has the former contacts removed.

Go Green

There are lots of Green<city-name>.com names deleting on this coming 15th. None of these are premium GEOs, but there are a few good tourist destinations that should drop and become available.

If you’re interested in these, post a comment here or use the contact form.

Some Great Names Today!

Tell me what you think of today’s pickups: HealthyLaughs.com, GoofyBoxers.com. I think I did pretty good… I’ll let you know my development plans later.

SemiRetired.net

I’m having second thoughts about this one… Lots of people call themselves semi-retired, you hear the phrase all the time. It’s unfortunate that I read the domain as “semi-retarted” instead of “retired” — maybe it’s just me?

Good Pickups Today

I’m really happy about the two names I caught today: GreatInternships.com and MobileSuccess.com. I’m pitching MobileSuccess.com as a site for advertisers looking to get into the mobile market or ad agencies looking for a brand. GreatInterships.com speaks for itself for possibly job boards, career advice, etc… :)

Through The Ringer

Here’s a look at what happens when one domain drops and the tasters have their way with it. The name is nothing special, but it’s not a bad name. Drooze.com, perfectly pronouncable, passes the radio-test, brandable, not particularly pleasant to say, but it is a short dot com and TM free…

iAjax.com

What get’s 1,000,000 searches a month according to the new Google numbers and is the programming technique that virtually runs every Web 2.0 site out there: AJAX, or Asynchronous Javascript and XML.

Careful here, because “Ajax” is a tradmarked term, but used in the programming world, it’s ubiquitous with creating interactive and more user-friendly web applications, not cleaning your toilet.
